Our wise bodies know how to heal. Let’s practice listening!

Somatic Coaching

What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing (SE), the modality I am trained in, is an approach to supporting shifts in how trauma, or stuck protective responses, is held in our nervous systems. As we support stuck patterns to resolve, we free up more space for our life force to come through, allowing us to move through the world with greater presence, resilience, flexibility and a sense of being more fully alive!

Somatic Experiencing can support

  • practices for returning to connection in the present when overwhelmed or triggered

  • the shifting of embedded trauma patterns that we just can’t seem to talk our way out of

  • greater resilience in the face of stress, change, conflict or charge.

  • a deepened sense of agency and capacity to act powerfully in alignment with our values

  • greater capacity for navigating uncertainty and for risk-taking in service of our goals and commitments

  • getting in touch with our emotions, tolerating and befriending a broader range of feelings

  • a deepened sense of connection to and support from the web of life, spirit, non-human kin

  • healthier boundaries in work and relationships - leading to less burnout and resentment

So then, what’s Somatic Coaching?

My approach to Somatic Coaching integrates my training in SE with my experience as an educator and facilitator in justice-seeking communities, and the embodied antiracist and anti-oppression framework that I bring to my work. I believe somatic practice can help us heal from the impacts of historical trauma and I am hopeful that this kind of healing work, happening on both an individual and communal level, has the potential to create the conditions for a more just world to unfold. I am eager to work with anyone looking for support in becoming more embodied, especially as it allows you to more fully and freely live out your values and make this world a better place.

(Note: Since I am not a mental health therapist, if you are experiencing severe depression or other psychiatric diagnoses, I should not be your primary practitioner. I’m happy to talk about this further!

What’s a session like?

A session with me will be a combination of somatic (body-based) practices to develop greater awareness of and connection to the body, verbal processing and reflection, and (when working with interested white folks) relating and learning about embodied white patterns and how they show up in us. I believe that our bodies want and know how to heal, and so I will support you in connecting with the body’s wisdom and following its lead.

All sessions are in-person, except to accommodate illness or COVID exposure

“Working with Rachel has been life-changing. I have gotten to see and understand my own patterns so much more deeply, including core/root fears and motivations that shape me so profoundly but that I have never been able to name before (despite years of talk therapy). My work with Rachel has led to a clearer understanding of myself,  more possibility in my closest relationships, and deeper awareness of my connection to all Life. If you're looking to go deeper in your own healing and growth, I can't recommend Rachel highly enough.”
